Japanese Reading

An office worker sitting at a desk and holding their head in their hands

English Translation

When I first started working at a company, I felt somewhat reluctant to take paid leave during busy periods. I was worried that if I took time off, it might increase my coworkers’ workload.

However, one of my coworkers adjusted their work schedule and told the people around them what they needed to know before taking several days off. There were no particular problems afterward, which surprised me a little.

Seeing that made me realize that taking time off itself doesn’t necessarily cause trouble for others. Of course, how easy it is to take leave depends on the workplace and how busy things are, but in some cases, preparing in advance can reduce the burden on others.

I used to think, “It’s better not to take time off when work is busy.” Now, however, I feel that taking the time off you need while coordinating your work is important too.
