English Translation
On Friday, I had reserved a restaurant near the station for 7 p.m. to have dinner with a friend.
I was supposed to finish work around 6, but just before leaving, I was unexpectedly asked to do some work. It took longer than I expected, and I didn’t leave the office until 6:40.
The restaurant was about 30 minutes away, so it didn’t look like I would make the reservation on time.
First, I messaged my friend, “Work is taking longer than expected, so I think I’ll be a little late.” Then I thought it would be better to let the restaurant know too, so I called them.
“Hello, this is Tanaka. I have a reservation for two at 7 today, but I think I’ll be about 15 minutes late. Would that be okay?”
After checking the reservation, the staff member said, “That’s fine. Please take care on your way here.”
I had been feeling a little rushed before making the call, but I felt relieved after explaining the situation.
In the end, I arrived at the restaurant just before 7:15. My friend also said, “It’s fine because you let me know,” so I was glad I had contacted them early.
