Japanese Reading
ある日、友だちに荷物を送るために、郵便局へ行きました。
荷物の中には、お菓子と小さなプレゼントが入っています。
郵便局に着くと、窓口へ行きました。
私は店員さんに「この荷物を送りたいです」と言いました。
店員さんから送り先を聞かれたので、
「東京です」と答えました。
それから、荷物に貼るラベルに、友だちの住所と自分の住所を書きました。
書き終わったあと、店員さんに荷物を渡しました。
料金を払うと、レシートをもらいました。
店員さんに「何日くらいで届きますか？」と聞くと、
「だいたい明後日ごろです」と教えてくれました。
無事に送ることができて、ほっとしました。
友だちに届くのが楽しみです。

Useful Expressions
1. ～ために — in order to / for
友だちに荷物を送るために、郵便局へ行きました。
I went to the post office to send a package to my friend.
～ために is used to explain the purpose of doing something.
- 切手を買うために、郵便局へ行きました。
I went to the post office to buy stamps.
2. ～たいです — want to
「この荷物を送りたいです」と言いました。
I said, “I’d like to send this package.”
～たいです is used when you want to say that you would like to do something.
- 日本へ行きたいです。
I want to go to Japan.
3. ～を聞かれました — was asked
店員さんから送り先を聞かれました。
The staff member asked me where I was sending the package.
～を聞かれました is used when someone asks you about something.
- 名前を聞かれました。
I was asked my name.
4. 何日くらいで～？ — about how many days…?
「何日くらいで届きますか？」と聞きました。
I asked, “About how many days will it take to arrive?”
何日くらいで～？ is useful when asking approximately how many days something will take.
- 何日くらいでできますか？
About how many days will it take to be ready?
English Translation
One day, I went to the post office to send a package to a friend.
Inside the package were some snacks and a small present.
When I arrived at the post office, I went to the counter.
I told the staff member, “I’d like to send this package.”
They asked me where I was sending it, so I answered, “Tokyo.”
Then I wrote my friend’s address and my own address on the label for the package.
After I finished writing, I handed the package to the staff member.
I paid the fee and received a receipt.
I asked, “About how many days will it take to arrive?”
The staff member told me, “Probably around the day after tomorrow.”
I was relieved that I was able to send it without any problems.
I’m looking forward to it reaching my friend.
