日本で初めて部屋を探したとき、思っていたより狭い物件が多くて驚いた。
駅に近い場所は便利だったが、家賃を考えると、広い部屋を選ぶのは難しかった。
実際に小さな部屋で暮らし始めると、物を置く場所が限られているため、買い物をするときに「本当に必要か」と考えるようになった。
収納の仕方も以前より工夫するようになった。
その結果、狭い部屋でも意外と快適に暮らせることに気づいた。
ただし、狭ければいいというわけではない。
家で仕事をしたり、家族と暮らしたりするなら、もっと広さが必要な場合もある。
以前は部屋の広さばかり気にしていたが、今は自分の生活に合った空間かどうかも大切だと考えている。

Useful Expressions
1. ～ため — because / due to
物を置く場所が限られているため、「本当に必要か」と考えるようになった。
Because the space for keeping things is limited, I started thinking about whether I really need something.
Use ～ため to give a reason or cause. It is slightly more formal than ～から or ～ので.
・家賃が高いため、もう少し駅から離れた場所を探しました。
Because the rent was high, I looked for a place a little farther from the station.
2. ～ようになる — come to / begin to
収納の仕方も以前より工夫するようになった。
I began to be more creative about how I use storage.
Use ～ようになる to describe a change in behavior, ability, or way of thinking.
・引っ越してから、必要な物だけを買うようになりました。
After moving, I started buying only the things I need.
3. ～わけではない — it doesn’t mean that
狭ければいいというわけではない。
It doesn’t mean that smaller is always better.
Use ～わけではない when you want to show that an idea is not completely or always true.
・家賃が安ければ、どこでもいいというわけではありません。
Just because the rent is cheap doesn’t mean that any place is fine.
4. ～ばかり — only / nothing but
以前は部屋の広さばかり気にしていた。
I used to focus only on the size of the room.
Use ～ばかり when someone focuses on or does one thing repeatedly or excessively.
・値段ばかり気にすると、自分に合った部屋を見つけにくいかもしれません。
If you focus only on the price, it may be difficult to find a place that suits you.
English Translation
When I first looked for an apartment in Japan, I was surprised that many of the places were smaller than I had expected. Living near a station was convenient, but considering the rent, it was difficult to choose a larger apartment.
Once I actually started living in a small apartment, I began asking myself, “Do I really need this?” when shopping because there was limited space for my belongings. I also became more creative about how I used storage.
As a result, I realized that it was surprisingly possible to live comfortably even in a small apartment. However, that doesn’t mean smaller is always better. If you work from home or live with your family, you may need more space.
I used to focus mainly on the size of a room, but now I think it’s also important to consider whether the space suits the way I live.
