ある日の午後、家で仕事をしていると、インターホンが鳴りました。
画面を見ると、宅配便の人が立っていました。
私は玄関へ行って、ドアを開けました。
「お荷物です」と言われたので、荷物を受け取りました。
インターネットで注文していた本が届いたようです。
私はその荷物を楽しみにしていました。
宅配便の人に「ありがとうございます」と言って、ドアを閉めました。
部屋に戻って、箱を開けました。
中には、注文した本が入っていました。
無事に届いてよかったです。
その日の夜、さっそく本を読むことにしました。

Useful Expressions
1. ～ていると — while / when
家で仕事をしていると、インターホンが鳴りました。
While I was working at home, the doorbell rang.
～ていると is used when something happens while you are doing something.
- テレビを見ていると、友だちから電話が来ました。
While I was watching TV, a friend called me.
2. ～と言われました — was told / someone said…
「お荷物です」と言われたので、荷物を受け取りました。
The delivery person said, “I have a package for you,” so I received it.
～と言われました is used when you talk about something someone said to you.
- 「少し待ってください」と言われました。
I was told, “Please wait a moment.”
3. ～ようです — it seems / it looks like
インターネットで注文していた本が届いたようです。
It looked like the book I had ordered online had arrived.
～ようです is used when something seems to be true based on what you see or know.
- 外は雨が降っているようです。
It looks like it is raining outside.
4. ～を楽しみにしていました — was looking forward to
私はその荷物を楽しみにしていました。
I was looking forward to receiving the package.
～を楽しみにする is used when you are excited about something that will happen in the future.
- 旅行を楽しみにしています。
I’m looking forward to the trip.
English Translation
One afternoon, I was working at home when the doorbell rang.
I looked at the screen and saw a delivery person standing outside.
I went to the entrance and opened the door.
The delivery person said, “I have a package for you,” so I received it.
It looked like the book I had ordered online had arrived.
I had been looking forward to receiving it.
I said, “Thank you,” to the delivery person and closed the door.
I went back to my room and opened the box.
Inside was the book I had ordered.
I was glad it arrived safely.
That evening, I decided to start reading it right away.
