大学を卒業してから、私は東京で働いている。
仕事の選択肢が多く、電車でほとんどの場所へ行けるので、最初は「住むなら東京が一番便利だ」と思っていた。
しかし、長く暮らすにつれて、便利さだけでは決められないと感じるようになった。
家賃が高く、朝の電車も混んでいる。
店や電車が多くても、人の多さや通勤で疲れてしまうこともある。
一方、東京を離れて暮らす友人は、店は少なくなったものの、広い家でゆっくり過ごせるようになったという。
ただ、東京以外に住めば生活が楽になるとは限らない。
仕事の機会が減ったり、車が必要になったりする場合もある。
以前の私は、店や電車が多いことを「便利」だと考えていた。
しかし今は、何を便利だと感じるかは人によって違うと思っている。
東京に住むほうがいいかどうかより、自分が毎日の生活で何を優先したいのかを考えることが大切なのかもしれない。

Useful Expressions
1. ～につれて — as / as something changes
長く暮らすにつれて、便利さだけでは決められないと感じるようになった。
As I lived there longer, I began to feel that convenience alone wasn’t enough to decide.
Use ～につれて when one thing gradually changes as another thing progresses or changes.
・年齢を重ねるにつれて、住みたい場所も変わってきた。
As I’ve gotten older, the kind of place I want to live in has changed.
2. ～ものの — although / even though
店は少なくなったものの、広い家でゆっくり過ごせるようになった。
Although there are fewer shops, my friend is now able to relax in a larger home.
Use ～ものの when the second part contrasts with what you might expect from the first part.
・駅から遠いものの、静かで住みやすい。
Although it’s far from the station, it’s quiet and comfortable to live there.
3. ～とは限らない — not necessarily
東京以外に住めば生活が楽になるとは限らない。
Living outside Tokyo doesn’t necessarily make life easier.
Use ～とは限らない when something may be true in some cases but is not always true.
・便利な場所だからといって、家賃が高いとは限らない。
Just because a place is convenient doesn’t necessarily mean the rent is high.
4. ～ようになる — come to / begin to
便利さだけでは決められないと感じるようになった。
I came to feel that convenience alone wasn’t enough to decide.
Use ～ようになる to describe a change in ability, behavior, or the way someone thinks or feels.
・一人で暮らしてから、お金の使い方を考えるようになった。
After I started living alone, I began to think more about how I spend money.
English Translation
After graduating from university, I started working in Tokyo. There are many job opportunities, and I can get almost anywhere by train, so at first I thought, “If I’m going to live somewhere, Tokyo is the most convenient place.”
However, the longer I’ve lived here, the more I’ve come to feel that convenience alone isn’t enough to decide where to live. Rent is expensive, and the trains are crowded in the morning. Even with so many shops and trains, the crowds and commuting can sometimes be exhausting.
On the other hand, a friend who moved away from Tokyo says that although there are fewer shops, they can now relax in a larger home. Still, living outside Tokyo doesn’t necessarily make life easier. There may be fewer job opportunities, and in some places a car may be necessary.
I used to think that having lots of shops and trains was what made a place “convenient.” Now, however, I think what feels convenient differs from person to person. Rather than simply asking whether it is better to live in Tokyo, perhaps what really matters is thinking about what you want to prioritize in your everyday life.
